My name is Dr. Dougherty, and I'm the chair of the department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics. I want to welcome you to the university and introduce you to our department. Prior to joining FDU, I worked in industry as a research scientist. And while I enjoyed that, I found that I missed academia, and I wanted to come back. Although this time at the other side of the desk-- it was a good decision. The department of chemistry, biochemistry and physics is part of FDU Becton College of Arts and Sciences. Our goal is to cultivate a well rounded student, who's equipped with the technical skills and scientific knowledge necessary to succeed in in your personal, professional and academic goals. We are one department-- two campuses joined by that common goal. To serve the needs of a large population of cosmetic science professionals in the greater New York metropolitan area, FDU offers a Master of Science in cosmetic science. This unique program, there's only a few like this in the country. It'ss really designed to train students who want to pursue careers formulating products for the cosmetic and fragrance industries. We hire professionals, adjuncts from the industry to teach specialized courses, and prepare these students for careers in that industry. And also, those already working in the industry provides them a way to further advance their careers. This program combines graduate coursework in all the major subjects of chemistry with opportunity to do research, and both a thesis, and a non-thesis option. We offer small class sizes, hands-on experimentation, and modern instrumentation for both research and teaching a MS in Chemistry, MS in Cosmetic Science, or Master of Arts in Teaching. You can learn more about our faculty, staff and programs by visiting our website. All program information is there along with the frequently asked questions. If you need further information, please reach out to either the admissions office or directly to the department, and we're there to help you.
