FDU’s 32-credit Master of Science in Biology is excellent preparation for a myriad of career opportunities both in the laboratory — and beyond. Offered at FDU’s Metropolitan Campus in Teaneck, NJ, the program also offers two concentrations in addition to the core program.

Some of our graduates choose to pursue admission to medical or other professional schools. Others apply their expertise to careers that link biology to some of the major social and economic challenges facing the world today — pandemics and public health, environmental sustainability, resistance to antibiotics, and more.

Whatever your career path, you are encouraged to tailor the M.S. in Biology degree program to align with your personal interests and professional goals. Two 12-credit concentrations also are available:

Biotechnology Concentration: The fast-growing biotechnology industry has created a high demand for skilled professionals. This 12-credit concentration can help you build the skills these employers demand. Courses include Topics in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biotechnology, Immunology, Human Genetics, Bioethics, and Advances in Pharmacology.

Business Concentration: This 12-credit concentration is especially attractive to scientists who want to become bio-entrepreneurs. Courses include Foundations of Management, Marketing Principles, Organizational Behavior and Leadership, Strategic Marketing, and Social Media Strategy.

All students enrolled in FDU’s M.S. in Biology can complete the degree with or without pursuing the research/thesis option.

Welcome to FDU My name is Dr. James Salierno. I'm the deputy chair of Biological Sciences, the College of Florham. My name is Dr. Marion McClary, and I'm the Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. What I really enjoy is being able to teach courses, particularly ones that are right down my alley, in terms of expertise, and work with students on research. On the Metropolitan campus, we have a master's in Biology. We have a concentration in Biotechnology, or in Business. A graduate student at Fairleigh Dickinson University can expect small class sizes, one-on-one interaction with faculty, whether it's in a classroom, with the teaching, or with research. The research opportunities that Fairleigh Dickinson University for graduate students range from research that deal with research of skin, research on cancer, cancer in the skin, the effect of UV radiation on the skin cells. And the faculty members who work in this area are published frequently. So you have a possibility of publishing with these professors, which will further your career because of the publication. And there's also a network of students out there that you could tap into-- to help you excel in your career. A degree in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University opens up the door to endless opportunities. Students that are in the master's program here at FDU go on to do a variety of things. Some of those things are to work in industry, biotechnology, or continue to do so with they're already working in that field, for promotion reasons. So in addition to you know, our impressive faculty, and our ability to not only work with students on a one-on-one basis, but also publish, pretty exciting research. We also have students who are now veterinarians, and doctors, and physical therapists, as well as PhDs. We have a person right now who's down at Princeton. And so it's really great to see where our students have gone and they've kind of expanded in tons of different areas. It's very exciting. For more information, please go to www.fdu.edu/biology. So you also have the opportunity to visit and sit in one of our classes, and see how we actually really teach and interact with students on a daily basis. And I look forward to seeing you on campus in the science building in the fall.
