The FDU Department of Literature, Languages, Writing, and Humanities offers a 30-credit, low residency MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators is the only program of its kind in the world. Designed for working teachers, courses are offered online so you can easily fit them into your busy teaching schedule.
The Master of Arts in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators is a unique program that will nurture your writing skills while providing practical tools to be a more confident, constructive, and versatile teacher of creative writing in the K-12 classroom.
As a student in the program, you will also become a master interpreter of literature and be able to apply creative approaches and assignments to spark your students' engagement with, and deeper thinking about, challenging texts. You’ll also exchange information and experiences with fellow teachers from across the nation who are enrolled in the program.
The MA in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators will allow you to study with faculty who are published authors and National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize finalists.
The highlight of our program is the three-day summer residency where we’ll introduce you to a lifelong network of educators and writers. The annual residency is held on FDU’s beautiful Florham Campus in Madison, NJ (38 miles from New York City), where you’ll take part in intensive workshops, work with a distinguished visiting writer, and get to know your professors and fellow students.
This program does not require GRE test scores for admission.
NOTE: FDU also offers an MFA in Creative Writing through the School of the Arts.
